I use Dove Intensive Repair shampoo & conditioner, dry it with a 100% cotton tshirt, throw a bit of sea spray + Organix coconut oil in it, then go to bed. If it’s a little limp in the AM, I use a an average no-crunch hairspray.

To straighten it, I just use an Argan Oil & a Chi straightener.

Hiya!

About a week after I met the former beauty editor, the editor-in-chief saw a photo of me wearing red lipstick and asked said former beauty editor if she could contact me. Within a week, I was shooting my first contributing piece for Teen Vogue!

As far as the Wall Street Journal goes, I just happened to be at the right place at the right time chatting with some pretty amazing ladies.

In short: probably.

Getting messages from readers asking, “where have you been?” or “what are you wearing these days?” doesn’t really help matters too much, either. I know I’ve been missing and to be honest, I don’t really know if I want to be found.

With everything I’ve done in the past three years since first moving to New York City, it feels good to finally have a break. It wasn’t like I was some superstar but with all that was going on in my virtual world, plus school and interning, things were getting a little too hectic. When I first started opting for a night in with dinner and a movie instead of going to a press preview or like, the coolest party ever for x-brand, I felt pretty cruddy and was always asking myself, “is this harming my career?” (Whatever that means.)

Turning down events, turning down photo shoots, actually going to school instead of collaborating or going to coffee with x-brand(s)… It felt a bit like I was sabotaging myself.

At some point in the last year, I’ve done some soul searching (whatever THAT means), and I’ve realized that I don’t need all of this superficial shit (ie. parties, cool clothes, or collabs) to make me feel complete. I needed friends, something I didn’t have. I needed a stable and consistent learning environment, something I definitely did not have. And I really needed a hobby, that didn’t involve a computer. At some point in the last year, I’ve found all of that. And more. And I really, really couldn’t be happier.

To the internet, my life has probably become boring. But to me, I’m finally in touch with myself.

I know raising four kids as a single mom while starting your new business at the time was not easy. But it sent a bar for all of your children, and you’ve shown us what it means to be focused, strong willed, and realizing that when all you have left is optimism is sometimes all you need. For every sacrifice you’ve made for us, for every time you’ve made us go to school even though we were “sooo sick”, for every Saturday you’ve taken off work to get a pedicure with me, for the continuous support, for everything… You really are the best. Hi Nicole, I was wondering if you have any advice about going into fashion law - in September I start my LLB law course in the UK. Do you think I'm doing it in reverse? Should I have studied fashion prior to law? What's your take on FIT as a whole? The school itself, professors, classes, environment etc?

School: It’s in the top 10 for fashion in the world
Professors: Amazing. I had a professor that headed the men’s division of Armani and once worked at Prada. He helped hook me up. All the professors at FIT are super friendly and incredibly experienced in their field. They usually can bring more value to a classroom than any textbook…unless they wrote that textbook.
Environment: Welcome to the 13th grade.
Classes: The studios are great and the lectures can be pretty interesting if you have the right professors (hellllo ratemyprofessor.com).
Overall: It’s probably a 7.5/10. You know, I’ve been working the entire time I’ve been in school so my priorities have been else where. It is what you make of your experience and program. This isn’t a typical college and it is VERY competitive on a student-to-student level. I do have to say, though, I wouldn’t have had as many opportunities to intern and I definitely wouldn’t have my current job if it weren’t for the school. They give very little homework, but that’s because they’re expecting you to get off your ass and enter the real world on your own.
